The Getty

On saturday, Me, Kevin and Lex went to The Getty Museum. It was part of an assignment given to us by Stephanie (Our supervisor).

We have to pick 5 artworks and relate them to our project in terms of lighting, composition, texture and other aspects.

These are the five artworks:

1: - (did not get the name)

The rocks in this painting are similar to what we are trying to achieve from our project in terms of the colors, texture and the shape. It has a chiseled look and is is angular.

2: View of a Mountain Valley with Buildings

Same goes for this painting, the rocky walls are similar to our map walls. This painting also has a very good sense of scale and depth.

3: - (did not get the name)

This piece is a very good example of how nature works and how man made structures are built on nature. We can reference this to look at how the elements of the terrain are connected.

The lighting is also useful for us to reference.

 The long shadows suggest the time of day is nearing sunset or is still early in the morning. It gives off a very grand and epic feeling, something i want to capture in our game level.

4: An Italianate Landscape with Travelers on a Path

The environment is an example of how water affects the are around it. I can reference the foliage (grass, trees, bushes) and how and where they are positioned to help me when i have to place the foliage on the map.

5:- (did not get the name)

This piece has a really nice contrast between the green background and the purple tones of the person.

 For the project i want there to be a contrast between the man made structures and the natural terrain surrounding them.

In terms of color, the project has a brownish, orangey tone to the environment while the man made structures are bluish. this creates a contrast in both colors and shapes.

1: Rocks

This is a good reference for our rocks in the level. Sharp and angular. The textures are also a good help.

2: Trees

The trees here are not very full, they are a bit barren and is something similar to what we are trying to achieve.
