Initial project ideas and concepts

This is our ideas and concepts for our project.
The idea is to create a multiplayer map for a shooter.
The map objective is to control the center point of the map where this huge and powerful structure stands.

The structure will charge up as the team controls the point. When it reaches its charging point, it smashes down onto the ground and will power up and fire an anti-air gun off the map.

The gun will fire at the opposing team's main flying ship off the map.

Every time the gun fires, the opposing team's health/points will reduce. Once the health/points reaches zero the team loses.

The map is in a rocky, and isolated area.
The idea is that these structures and the anti air guns are leftover technology from past powerful civilizations. So now the current humans are waging war against each other.

This technology is then left for any side to control and whoever controls them gains a huge advantage.

So we are hoping to create this map using Houdini and procedural modeling. Through that we can hopefully find out new techniques for games modeling.

This is of course the first run through. We will get advice from the Side Effects Staff and the we can go on from there.

The Pier

This will be a short one.

On Tuesday, 18 September 2012
We all went to the beach area in the afternoon and had a great time.
Saw some interesting things on the pier. Here are some pictures.

It begins....

Me and Kevin arrived in LAX at around 1pm, 17 September 2012.
The flight was very tiring and uncomfortable. It was my first ever long distance flight and it wasn't a pleasant experience.

No more complaining. Well, at least we arrived safely and i am very happy and appreciative of that.

We got to the apartment and settled down. Unpacked a bit and went out for lunch with our lecturer, Lex.

After lunch, we walked around the promenade and had a look around our area.

The promenade

We also went to the mall and had a look.

We finished by going to the nearby supermarket around our apartment area and buying some stuff for the apartment.

We got back in the evening and went settled more stuff.

Then we went to sleep.

End of day 1......

Introduction

Hi my name is Bani Hilman. A student from Nanyang polytechnic, studying Games Design.
I am in LA, undergoing an overseas attachment program.
I am attached to Side Effects Software and will work on a personal project with supervision form the staff in the office.

Big Thanks to Nanyang Polytechnic and Media Authority Development  for giving me the opportunity to travel to LA and gain experience and knowledge, to better myself as an artist and a person.

This is an overview of things to come.

What you can expect from this blog:

My thoughts.
The sights and sounds of LA through my eyes.
Updates on the progress of my project.
My artworks related to the project.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Before the trip, I had to do a crash course on Houdini just so that i will be able to do something basic before learning even more at Side Effects Software.

It was tough but i think i managed to grasp some of the techniques and skills.
I still have to work really hard to have a decent knowledge in Houdini, especially since i have a hard time learning a lot of the technical aspects of it.

I just have to keep at it and hopefully the project will turn out decent.
To be honest too, i do not have crazy high expectations to do something awesome. As long as i achieve something new and good enough, that can help propel my learning to new heights and directions.

I leave you then with a picture of me.............Yeah..........

At the Santa Monica Pier.
